Siberian Husky Puppy

source: mandiehman on Instagram

Both Sean and I had Siberian Huskies growing up. His, Aspen, lived until she was 18 years old, passing away just this summer after a wonderful, long life. Mine, a rambunctious male named Jet, was unfortunately sent to a rescue for huskies after several years because we just couldn’t give him the exercise he needed to use up his boundless energy. But we both absolutely love the breed.

Over the past year, we’ve talked several times about adopting a puppy, but wanting to have the flexibility to travel has always kept us from moving forward. However, watching our girls take care of the stray kitty we adopted, Winter, has only made the desire to get a puppy grow. They have been amazing with her, but she is an outdoor cat and disappears regularly (one time for more than two months!), which is hard for all of us because we never know if and when she’s coming back!

We happened to be looking through husky listings this weekend when we came across a jet black husky from a private breeder just a couple of hours away, and it was love at first sight. Although we told ourselves and the girls that we had to be willing to walk away if she wasn’t right for our family, I think we all knew that we’d be coming home with a puppy the day we went to meet her.

Bella, the newest member of our family, is absolutely the sweetest, most darling puppy. She rarely has an accident (and the two she has had this week were our fault, not hers, for ignoring the signs), is happy in her crate — at least during the day — and is the perfect blend of playful and calm!

Despite the intense sleep deprivation that comes from having a new puppy, we couldn’t be happier!

Here are some of my favorite posts from this week. As always, check out what I’m reading to see the other posts that make me stop and think. You’ll find new posts all week long!

Congrats on the new pup! I highly suggest checking out Dog Star Daily and their free downloads since it’s been a while since you had a puppy in the house. A good positive reinforcement based puppy class is also worth its weight in gold, for both puppies and their new owners. :)
