Weekend Reading: October 2, 2010

by Mandi on October 2, 2010

Yesterday I wore a long-sleeved shirt for the first time this season. This morning we woke up and it was 65 degrees in our home. On Wednesday we carved our first pumpkin. Winter squash, apples and sweet potatoes fill my produce drawers. I love everything about fall, and this week it finally feels like fall in our home!

Today we’re celebrating our three fall birthday girls (3 birthdays in 3 weeks) with family. I’ve heard other moms say that something about their little ones turning 6 makes them stop and realize just how fast the time is going, and that’s been true for us as well. I love how our relationship with our oldest is changing as she gets older, but it’s hard for me to believe that she’s no longer the funny toddler that kept us busy and laughing!

Here are some of my favorite posts from this week that celebrate the fall season. As always, check out what I’m reading to see the other posts that make me stop and think. You’ll find new posts all week long!

The bonus post for today is this heart-wrenching reminder of how incredibly blessed we are from Kisses from Katie.

What a great list! Loved Myra’s Hurricanes, I did some of my own (giving her credit of course) and the Black Bottom Banana Bread is a must try recipe!

thank you! I just closed every.single.program. on my iphone and ipod touch… I also learnt (by chance) how to make folders last week, so I have everything on the front page (except kids games), and a much-less-cluttered page!

I’d add Big Green Purse by Diane MacEachern and Green Housekeeping by Ellen Sandbeck.

I don’t know that I have one to add, but I do have to say that I LOVE Last Child in the Woods. I think anyone who parents or works with kids should read that one!

It’s by far my favorite “parenting” book too!

I have heard great things about Last Child in the Woods. My kids are all grown, but my daughter with 6 kids has the mentality, thank goodness, that kids need to get outside and play, or if inside, use their imagination to come up with things to do. Her kids rarely play with toys, they just have fun together!
I see several of these I ought to read to get a better understanding of green living and what I can do everyday to make a difference.

Is this only for iPhone 4? I can’t find this on my iPhone 3…

Have you synced with iTunes recently? If you update your iTunes and then
sync your phone, you should get it automatically, I think!

Kristin, Isn’t it so weird how things like this article seem to come to us exactly when we need to hear them? I’m glad my words helped you.

I love this post Jeff! So many people have such a low self esteem and just don’t realize what they have inside of them!

Bernice, We truly have sooo much more potential inside us than we typically ever tap into. I hope this helps a few more discover what they are capable of.

Thank you. When everything looks grim…I need to believe that I WILL overcome.

Selena, You are exactly right! You can and will overcome if you believe in yourself and keep persevering.

It’s a great feature but I find it difficult to stab the jiggling x in just the right place to get it to respond. Sometimes I tap it dozens of times without getting the app to close.

Yeah, it definitely can be hard. I usually just wait and close a whole bunch
at once, so I just hit where it should be a dozen times until I finally get
      them all closed, LOL!

    I remember Doodles place!!

My blog has done more of a slow morphing over time and I’m a bit sad that I don’t have screen shots of some of my earlier looks.

Thank you for this look at the evolution of your blogging!

      Aww, so fun, Monica!

It’s so neat to see the changes that take place on different blog during the different seasons of the blogger’s life. Thanks for sharing the evolution of your blog.

We mostly blog to keep our family around the world updated on our lives, but I have found some wonderful communities around the blogosphere that has made me see that some of my thoughts/experiences can be an encouragement or inspiration to someone else, so I do take part in a few link-ups too. Other than that, I don’t see too much changes around our little space on the Internet. =p

I too am trying to morph my blog from one that started out as a way to keep family and friends informed as my hubby and I were traveling full time in our RV to one that I hope will provide some income for us in the future – I am not there yet, but I am working on building my readership and finding my niche.  There is so much to learn – but I am determined.  It’s nice to know that others have taken the same path that I am on now!

Love seeing this Mandi!  In the 6 or 7 months that I’ve been blogging, I see how it’s really like anything else: you build upon what you know little by little.

      Well said. And so true!

Love this!  Thanks for sharing your blogging evolution.  I feel like mine is taking some new turns right now, too, and I’m glad to get some reassurance that that’s ‘okay’, and it’s good to let it grow in different directions.  Good reminder to get those screen shots, too!  Thanks, Mandi!

I’m so glad you found it helpful, Lindsay! Follow your gut and your passion, and I think you’ll do great!

Ah, but when I started, *I* was just a novice. That’s the beauty of blogging! Can’t wait to see what the future holds for you!
