Sometimes I feel bad for our little girls. When the big girls were little, we painted and crafted and did all sorts of structured learning activities. And now? We’re a bit more relaxed, a little more laid back and a lot busier, and I tend to leave art supplies out and accessible for the big girls but forget to take the time to sit and paint or color with the little ones.
The other day we decided to make miniature frescoes, and the little ones had just as much fun, if not more, than the big girls. Our five-year-old carefully painted her picture exactly as she imagined it while the three-year-old went abstract, mixing colors and feeling the slime between her fingers.
It was a good reminder to do more of these activities with them, if for no other reason than to watch their faces light up when I say it’s time to paint!
